Here are our top tips to help you shine.
1. Nail Your Tech Check
Download Zoom in advance if you’ve never used it before.
Test your camera, microphone, and internet connection. Join your meeting 5–10 minutes early to avoid last-minute stress.
Make sure you’re in a quiet, well-lit space with no background noise.
2. Use Your 8 Minutes Wisely
The first part of your interview gives you time to tell the judges about your business, your people, and what makes you stand out.
You can present in any format, talk directly, play a short video, or use a PowerPoint. Stick to time, or you risk losing marks.
Tip: Keep it simple. One or two speakers is best so the judges can follow your story clearly.
3. Go Beyond Your Entry Form
Judges don’t see your written application.
Use your presentation to expand on what you submitted. Share your achievements, challenges, and what makes your business unique.
Make sure you cover:
- What your business does and who your customers are
- Your unique selling points and strengths
- Your success stories and standout moments
- Challenges you’ve overcome
- How you make a positive impact in Wigan
4. Be Clear and Concise in the Q&A
The second part of your interview is a Q&A with the judges.
You’ll be asked about your past, present, and future.
Keep your answers focused and aim for two minutes per question so you can cover everything.
5. Show Personality and Passion
Judges want to see what makes you tick.
Be authentic, be enthusiastic, and let your passion for your business shine through. Remember, this is your chance to prove why you deserve to be a winner.
6. Manage Your Nerves
It’s normal to feel nervous.
Breathe, smile, and remember you know your business better than anyone. Treat it as a conversation, not an interrogation.
