Terms & Conditions

of entry

Please contact us should you require any further clarification of the Wigan Business Awards terms and conditions of entry.

1. Rules of Entry

Entrants may choose to self-nominate or be nominated by others. A nomination is not required to enter the awards. Each nominee or entrant must complete a separate entry application for each award category they wish to enter.

Please be aware that nominated businesses must be located, or have its registered office, within the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan.

Check if your business or registered office falls under Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council HERE.

2. Award Application Process

All nominated businesses will be contacted to confirm their interest in proceeding with the application process.

Upon confirmation, nominees will receive a link to our award application. Each section must be completed within the specified word count limit.

3. Data Usage & Confidentiality

By entering these awards, you agree to allow us to use your email address for communications regarding the awards. Your email will serve as the primary channel for receiving important updates.

Please note, we treat all submitted applications with the highest level of confidentiality and do not share any information with external third parties. However, it’s important to note that judges will review your information during the application process for evaluation and judging purposes.

4. The Judging Process

After the submission deadline, all applications undergo an external shortlisting process. An independent panel of judges will individually review the shortlist to select the finalists.

Our goal is to select a minimum of 3 finalists in each category, although this may vary based on the quality of entries.

Selected finalists will then participate in interviews conducted by the panel of judges. The composition of the judging panels may vary for each category.

Each interview is expected to last approximately 20 minutes, overseen by an independent adjudicator to ensure fairness. The interviews will take place on a date selected between Monday 16th Sept – Friday 27th September, to be confirmed nearer the time.

Judges will provide individual scores, which remain confidential and undisclosed to the finalists. These scores are considered final. Failure to attend the interview may result in disqualification.

Finalists can request feedback after the ceremony, but scores from the interviews will not be shared.

5. Confirmation of Finalist Status

Upon being chosen as a finalist, you’ll receive notification via telephone or email. Acceptance of this status indicates your commitment to completing the awards process, including attending the interview and ceremony, and purchasing tickets.

Should you be unable to commit, it is essential to decline, as acceptance leads to possible inclusion in press releases to local media.

Once submitted, this cannot be retracted.

6. Attendance Requirement for Award Finalists

Upon becoming a finalist and accepting this status, your commitment to attend the entire awards ceremony is essential. Proxy representation or partial attendance can only be arranged in advance with the awards team.

Failure to attend will result in disqualification, and any outstanding payments will remain due.

The ceremony is scheduled for Friday 8th November 2024.

Nominees must carefully review and understand the award rules, confirming their understanding and commitment by officially accepting the nomination and completing the awards application form.
